FILM SCREENING: Toilet Adventures

LSE Literary Festival fringe event

Date: Wednesday 25 February 2015
Time: 5.30-7.30pm
Venue: 6th Floor Studio, Saw Swee Hock Student Centre

It's bad manners to discuss toilet activities. But the topic often comes up when people recount their first experiences in China. For many, confronting a squat toilet for the first time is a shock. This fundamental encounter with the unknown can tell us about the relation of purity and danger, public and private space, and the role of the state in China’s rapidly changing society. Such abstract calculations come to life according to five stages, starting with “shock.”

The film lasts 20 minutes and will be shown on loop from 5.30pm, so just drop in!

A film by Professor William A Callahan, Professor of International Relations at the LSE, author of China Dreams: 20 Visions of the Future and the documentary video, China Dreams: The Debate.

This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. For any queries email events@lse.ac.uk.
