Defence and foreign policy

British Government @ LSE lecture

Date: Thursday 12 February 2015
Time: 6.30-8pm
Venue: CLM 2.02, Clement House
Speakers: Professor Chris Brown, Professor Michael Cox, Professor Toby Dodge, Professor Margot Light
Chair: Tony Travers

The UK has been involved in a number of international conflicts and peace-keeping efforts in recent years. But pressure on the defence and Foreign Office budgets is likely to change the shape of the armed forces and to affect Britain’s position in the world. Negotiations about a possible coalition government might have implications for the UK’s nuclear deterrent. A Strategic Defence Review is expected in 2015 and this document will outline the longer-term options facing the country. This panel will look at the immense problems facing the next government as it seeks to adjust the scale and shape of defence and foreign policy.

Professor Chris Brown is Professor of International Relations in the LSE Department of International Relations.

Professor Michael Cox is Founding Co-Director of LSE IDEAS and Professor of International Relations at LSE.

Professor Toby Dodge is Director of the Middle East Centre at LSE and a Professor in the International Relations Department at the LSE.

Margot Light is Professor Emeritus of International Relations at the Department of International Relations of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

British Government@LSE is an initiative currently based in the Government Department (@lsegovernment) to promote and develop research on British Government being conducted at the LSE.
