Joyce Banda will reflect on her journey to the highest level of public life. This event launches a new Institute of Public Affairs project exploring the roads taken by women who shape public life.

Joyce Banda was the first female President of Malawi (2012 – 2014) and only the second woman to lead a country in Africa.

Purna Sen (@Purna_Sen) is Deputy Director of the Institute of Public Affairs at LSE.

Marie-Pierre Lloyd is Seychelles High Commissioner to the UK and a member of the Above the Parapet advisory group.

Haleh Afshar OBE is Professor Emeritus at the University of York, serves as a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords and is a member of the Above the Parapet advisory group.

Above the Parapet (@LSEParapet) is a research project at the LSE’s Institute of Public Affairs which explores the stories of women in high profile public life.

Self-Assessment Record forms will be made available for delegates wishing to record further learning and knowledge enhancement for Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPD) purposes. For delegates who wish to obtain a CPD Certificate of Attendance, it is the responsibility of delegates to register their details with a LSE steward at the end of the event and as of 1 September 2014 a certificate will be sent within 28 days of the date of the event attended by the CPD Certification Service.  If a delegate fails to register their details at the event, it will not prove possible to issue a certificate.
