The Shadow of the Crescent Moon: writing Pakistan

South Asia Centre public lecture

Coming from one of Pakistan's political dynasties, the country has always been at the heart of Fatima Bhutto's writing.  Her debut novel, The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, is set in a small town close to the Afghan border, against a backdrop of contemporary conflict.  In this talk Fatima will discuss how outsiders view Pakistan and how writers contribute to that image.

Fatima Bhutto was born in 1982 in Kabul, grew up in Damascus, and lives in Karachi. She is the author of a memoir, Songs of Blood and Sword|. Her debut novel is The Shadow of the Crescent Moon|.

Self-Assessment Record forms will be made available for delegates wishing to record further learning and knowledge enhancement for Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPD) purposes. For delegates who wish to obtain a CPD Certificate of Attendance, it is the responsibility of delegates to register their details with a LSE steward at the end of the event and as of 1 September 2014 a certificate will be sent within 28 days of the date of the event attended by the CPD Certification Service|.  If a delegate fails to register their details at the event, it will not prove possible to issue a certificate.
