Department of Management public lecture
Date: Wednesday 10 November 2010
Time: 6.30-8pm
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Theatre, New Academic Building
Speaker: Dr Michael O'Malley
Chair: Dr David Henderson
When Michael O'Malley first took up beekeeping he thought it would be a nice hobby to share with his son. But he noticed that bees not only work together to achieve a common goal but, in the process, create a remarkably productive organisation. O'Malley's new book The Wisdom of Bees shows what bees can teach managers and provides insight into decision-making, communication and forward planning.
This event celebrates the publication of Michael O'Malleys new book The Wisdom of Bees: What the Hive Can Teach Business about Leadership, Efficiency, and Growth.
Dr. Michael O'Malley currently is the Executive Editor for Business, Economics, and Law at the Yale University Press where he has published several award-winning books such as: The Battle for the Soul of Capitalism (John Bogle), Good Capitalism, Bad Capitalism (William Baumol, Robert Litan, and Carl Schramm), Green to Gold (Daniel Esty and Andrew Winston) and Nudge (Richard Thaler & Cass Sunstein). His teaching and research interests parallel his thirty-year career in academia and human resource consulting, in which he has advised over 200 companies and written extensively in the areas of organizational change and leadership. He is the best-selling author of Are You Paid What You're Worth? (Broadway Books, 1998), Creating Commitment (John Wiley & Sons, 2000), Leading with Kindness (with William Baker, AMACOM, 2009) He has a BA in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and a PhD in Social Psychology and Quantitative Methods from Vanderbilt University.
