LSE IT Services is pleased to present a series of evenings (19, 20 and 21 October) to help promote awareness of information security issues that are relevant to every person that uses the Internet.

With the increasing use of computers and information technology in our everyday lives, the number of threats that people face on the Internet everyday has also increased. This series is set to show what some of those threats are, how you can protect yourselves and what other people are doing to protect us.

Bob Ayers will give a presentation on the privacy aspect of Internet usage. Rob Carolina will describe how laws around the world apply to your use of the Internet. He will also explain why the Cyberspace "Frontier" is now closed, why the Internet does have borders, and how the Internet has entered an age of de-globalisation.

Bob Ayers is now an associate fellow of Chatham House (Information Security Programme), following a 29-year career with the US DoD. His principal IT security related assignment was with the Defense Intelligence Agency where he served as the chief of the DoD Intelligence Information System (DoDIIS) Computer Security Program. Bob also founded the DoD CERT also known as the Automate Systems Security Incident Support Team or ASSIST. Bob has also served as the chief of the DoD Defensive Information Warfare Program Management Office where he managed a program to protect DoD Computers from hostile attack

Robert Carolina is a solicitor of the Supreme Court England & Wales, and a member of both the American and Illinois Bar Associations. In additional to an undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton, he holds degrees from Georgetown University (Juris Doctor) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LL.M in International Business Law). Following a period in-house with an Internet software development company, he moved to London in 1992 and subsequently worked for two of the world’s largest law firms. Robert has represented numerous customer and supplier companies in technology procurement and outsourcing contract negotiations. He also advises on legal aspects of complex e-commerce systems. Recognised as a leading UK expert on IT law and e-commerce law, he regularly presents courses and workshops on legal aspects of technology procurement and e-commerce.

There are 2 more lectures in this series, these will take place on 20 October and on 21 October, speakers will include former UK Home Secretary David Blunkett and Steve March, deputy director of the UK Office of Cyber Security & Information Assurance.
