Dr Axelson draws from leading academic research to shed light on the controversial role of private equity in the economy. This will be followed by the panel discussion 'Private Equity in Downturns: contributors or saviours?' led by Professor Felda Hardymon.

Ulf Axelson is the newly appointed Abraaj Capital Reader in Finance and Private Equity at LSE and director of the new MSc Finance and Private Equity.

Kurt Björklund is Co-director, of Permira.

Lord Simon Cairns is former CEO of S G Warburg and former Chairman Actis Partners, Allied Zurich and BAT Industries.

Felda Hardymon is a senior partner at Bessemer Partners, Professor of Management at Harvard Business School and a visiting professor at LSE.

Arif Naqvi is group CEO of Abraaj Capital.

Lord Jacob Rothschild is the founder and executive chairman of RIT Capital Partners.
