Update: Wednesday 10 March, 2.55pm. This lecture was given yesterday evening, the podcast of which will be available in 1-2 days providing there are no tecnhical difficulties. Tonight instead Professor Allen Buchanan will give the lecture scheduled last night Biomedical Enhancement and the Ethics of Development.
Many consider genetic modification to be the riskiest mode of biomedical enhancement. The problem of unintended bad consequences is serious, but it is often misrepresented in terms of interference with the 'wisdom of nature' or the handiwork of the 'master engineer' of evolution.
Allen Buchanan is the James B Duke Professor of Philosophy at Duke University, North Carolina.
