The Obama administration has abandoned the term 'War on Terror' and taken steps to undo the worst excesses of the post-9/11 security regime. However the legislation, structures and practices introduced after the attacks remain deeply embedded. The event is followed by the launch of Jude Howell and Jeremy Lind's new book Counter-terrorism, Aid and Civil Society.

Sally Healy, OBE, is an associate fellow on the Africa Programme at Chatham House. Jeremy Lind is a research fellow on the Vulnerability and Poverty Reduction Team at the Institute of Development Studies. David Peppiat is International Director at the British Red Cross. Elizabeth Winter is Vice Chair of Afghanaid.

Professor Jude Howell is Director of the Centre for Civil Society at LSE.
