David King is director of the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment at the University of Oxford. He was the government's chief scientific adviser and head of the Government Office for Science.

Haiti collection - at all LSE public events over the next few weeks a collection will be taken which will be donated to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) who are coordinating the appeal for aid in the disaster-hit country.
