How to get started with writing, how to keep a writer's notebook and how to progress from scribbling down thoughts and observations to actual stories and novel ideas.  This session will include writing exercises so that students leave with enough material to generate a first/new short story.

Justine Mann's short stories have been anthologised in The Global Village (Tell Tales Vol 4), Tales of the Decongested Vol 1 (Apis Books), Harlem River Blues (Fish Publishing) and the UEA Creative Writing Anthology 2008. She was awarded second prize in the 2007 Fish International Short Story competition and was shortlisted for the 2008 Bridport Short Story Prize. Justine has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and is currently writing a novel. She lives in South East London and teaches creative writing for the Open University. In 2008, she established the LSE's writers workshop in partnership with the LSE's Staff Development Unit.

The next session in the Creative Writing Workshops is Creative Writing- A Q&A with Nicola Monaghan.

This series is part of the LSE Space for Thought Literary Weekend, the LSE's first ever Literary Festival, celebrating the completion of the New Academic Building.
