Numbers have become the all-powerful language of public argument, but too often, that power is abused and the numbers bamboozle. How can we see our way through them?

Michael Blastland is a writer and broadcaster and the originator of the More or Less programme on BBC Radio 4. Andrew Dilnot is principal of St Hugh's College, Oxford, and former director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
