On the 18th October the leaders of Europe adopted the EU Reform Treaty that will help the European Union address the new challenges facing our economies and societies. With globalisation prime among these challenges, Joaquin Almunia, Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs will present a vision for a more open and competitive EU economy in the world. Europe will match internal reform with a global agenda to strengthen stability and prosperity across the international economic system.

Joaquin Almunia is European Commissioner responsible for Economic and Monetary Affairs. In 2000 he was Socialist candidate for Prime Minister in Spain having been leader of the PSOE from 1997-2000.
