Speakers: Sir John Major in conversation with Elinor Goodman
During the course of this conversation Sir John Major will reflect on his experiences as Prime Minister and discuss current affairs in the UK and across the globe.
Sir John was appointed Prime Minister in November 1990, and served in that position until May 1997. Prior to this, he served in Government for 16 years and in the Cabinet for 10 years. Sir John joined the Cabinet as Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 1987; and in July 1989 was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, a position he held for 94 days before being appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in October of that year.
Elinor Goodman was political editor for Channel 4 News from 1983 to 2005 and is a member of the Hansard Society Council.

Returns Queue
There will be a returns queue in operation for this event. Shortly before the event starts we will fill any empty seats left by ticket holders with people from the returns queue. The returns queue will be located outside the entrance to the venue. Entry is not guaranteed to this event via the returns queue.

Security Notice
For security reasons it will not be possible to bring bags into this event. Small handbags will be allowed but at the discretion of security staff subject to a bag search. There are NO facilities at the venue entrance for leaving bags so please make alternative arrangements to leave your belongings elsewhere before you arrive. LSE regrets that this may cause some inconvenience.
