Lakatos Award lecture

This lecture will argue that examining what seems to be a very straightforward question - what is temperature and how can we measure it? - reveals surprising insights into the nature of science and of scientific authority.
Hasok Chang is reader in philosophy of science in the Department of Science and Technology Studies, University College London. His book, Inventing Temperature: measurement and scientific progress, was one of two publications given the 2006 Lakatos Award.
