In a world with one military superpower in the shape of the US and two emerging economic giants in the shape of China and India, does Europe have the political will to be a major global player or is it now entering a period of irreversible decline?

Peter Sutherland is chairman of BP and president of the Federal Trust. He is a former director-general of the WTO and the GATT and a former European Commissioner.

This event is part of 'The Future of Europe Series', hosted jointly by FT Business| and the European Institute|, in association with the Wyndham Place Charlemagne Trust|.

Returns Queue

There will be a returns queue in operation for this event. Shortly before the event starts we will fill any empty seats left by ticket holders with people from the returns queue. The returns queue will be located outside the Old Theatre on the ground floor of LSE Old Building. Entry is not guaranteed to this event via the returns queue and is strictly subject to space.
