Time: 6.30pm

The story of Europe over the last 50 years can be told as a story of the enlargement of freedom. But the EU tends to talk little of freedom, preferring to speak of stability, security or prosperity. Should we leave the explicit promotion of freedom entirely to the United States?
Timothy Garton Ash is professor of European studies in the University of Oxford.
This event is part of 'The Future of Europe Series', hosted jointly by FT Business| and the European Institute|.
The next event in the series will take place on Thursday 26 October. Professor Willem Buiter will present a lecture entitled 'Rethinking Inflation Targeting and Central Bank Independence|'.
This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis.
