Turkey and the European Union: the way forward

Abdullah Gül has served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey since March 2003. Prior to this he was Prime Minister from November 2002 to March 2003. Minister Gül graduated from Istanbul University, with a B.A.degree in economics in 1971 and received a Ph.D. degree from the same university in 1983. From 1983 to 1991 he worked at the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, as economist and became Associate Professor on International Economics in 1991. In 2001 he was awarded the Pro-merito Medal of the Council of Europe and became an Honorary Associate of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. Later in 2001 he became the Founding Board Member of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). As Foreign Minister, Minister Gül has played a central role in Turkey's relations with the European Union and the agreement to open entry talks this October.

Ticket Information

This event is free and open to all however a ticket is required. 

Update: Wednesday 9 March - all tickets for members of the public, LSE staff and alumni have now been allocated.  Tickets for this event will be distributed by Wednesday 9 March. Please note that one ticket per applicant will be sent out. Any applicants who were unsuccessful in their ticket request will be advised as soon as possible.

All tickets available for LSE students have now been allocated. 

Returns Queue:
There will be a returns queue in operation for this event. Shortly before the event starts we will fill any empty seats left by ticket holders with people from the returns queue.
The returns queue will be located on the ground floor of the Old Building beside the Old Theatre. Entry is not guaranteed to this event via the returns queue.
