American Power and its Illusions: the view from down there

Miliband Lecture on American Power in the 21st Century

Date: Tuesday 6 May 2003
Time: 6.30pm
Venue: Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House
Speaker: Dr Abdelwahab El-Affendi
Chair: Professor David Held

Western empire builders have always looked to the Middle East as the crowning prize without which an empire would not be complete. For many, the Middle East became the burial grounds of their dreams. Until recently, the US has avoided the temptations for full engagement in this area.

Abdelwahab El-Affendi is a senior research fellow at the Centre for the Study of Democracy, University of Westminster, and co-ordinator of the Centre's Project on Democracy in the Muslim World.

This event is free and open to all with no ticket required. For further information please email events@lse.ac.uk| or phone 020 7955 6043.
