Stanley Fischer was first deputy managing director of the IMF from 1994 until August 2001.
Between December 1994 and March 1999, Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Russia and Brazil experienced major financial crises associated with massive recessions and extreme movements of exchange rates. The effects of these crises were felt in other emerging market economies and at one point seemed to be threatening the stability of the USA's financial markets.
These 3 lectures will provide an overview of the crises and discuss the reform of the international financial system, focusing on the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
All of these lectures are free and open to all, no ticket is required. For further information please contact 020 79556043 or email events@lse.ac.uk|
