The Critique of Pure Rhythm is the Department’s in-house rock ‘n’ roll band.
The band currently consists of John Worrall on guitar, Max Steuer on bass, Roman Frigg on drums, Ipek Gencsu and Alex Voorhoeve on vocals and features James Bonney on guitar, David Healey on saxophone, Ewan Rodgers on acoustic guitar, Matt Parker on harmonica and Daniel Kim on keyboard.
The Critique’s first gig was in November 2006 in John’s living room, where they tried to recreate the swinging sixties of his youth. Since then, they’ve played at several departmental parties, the LSE Staff party and a few alumni get-togethers. Jami Makan was drummer in 2006-07; Amy Reed sang from 2006 to 2008, and Bryan Williamson played guitar in 2010-11.
