Many ways to skin a fat cat? Taxing capital after the Panama Papers

How should Europe deal with tax avoidance? A discussion with leading Dutch politician and MEP Paul Tang and well-known Dutch politician and professor of economics Rick van der Ploeg (Oxford). Chaired by Dr Alex Voorhoeve (LSE).

Paul Tang (1967) is a Dutch politician. He has been a member of the European Parliament for the Dutch Labour Party – PvdA since July 2014. Paul Tang was a member of the House of Representatives in Dutch Parliament between 2007 and 2010. Paul Tang is currently member of the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in the European Parliament. He also serves as vice-chair on the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.

Rick van der Ploeg (1956) is a Dutch economist. He obtained his PhD at the University of Cambridge and he has held professorships in economics at the University of AmsterdamTilburg University and the London School of Economics. Rick van der Ploeg was also a MP for the Dutch Labour Party-PvdA from 1994 to 1998. Subsequently, Rick van der Ploeg became State Secretary for Culture and Media in the years 1998-2002. He is currently a professor of economics at the University of Oxford and the VU University Amsterdam.
