The Centre welcomes its visitors for the term: Alessandro Allegra, Seamus Bradley, Bruce Caldwell, Mike Dascal, Conal Duddy, Andrew Goldfinch, Stephan Guettinger, Hykel Hosni, Yuko Nishiyama, Andrea Polonioli, Stefan Schubert, Omri Tal, Christopher Thompson and Oswaldo Zapata. We also welcome Tom Rowe, PhD student, who will be working on the new Managing Severe Uncertainty Project.

 

Events

Erica Thompson (LSE) will give a Sigma Club talk on 'Attitudes Towards Uncertainty: The Perspective of a Physical Scientist' on May 20, 5:15-6:45pm, LAK.2.06.

Foad Dizadji-Bahmani (California State University, LA) will give a Popper seminar on 'A New Model of Intertheoretic Reduction' on May 21, 2:00-3:30pm, LAK.2.06.

The Forum, Centre and Department will co-host a lecture by Daniel Dennett (Tufts University) on 'Intuition Pumps and Other Tools for Thinking' on May 23, 6:30-7:00pm, Sheikh Zayed Theatre.

The Centre and the Department will host a 'Nancy Cartwright Farewell Conference' on June 3, 1:45-5:00pm, LAK.2.06. The programme can be found here.

The Forum for European Philosophy will host a dialogue with Rupert Read and Roger Scruton on 'Green Philosophy' on June 5, 6:30-8:00pm, Sheikh Zayed Theatre.

The Government Department, in conjunction with the Philosophy Department and the Choice Group will host a workshop on 'New Perspectives on Free Will and Responsibility: From Metaphysics to Politics' on June 13-15.

Avishai Margalit (Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton) will give a lecture on 'Proportionality and Total War' as part of the Centre's Order Project on June 19, 4:30pm, OLD.3.21.

Harold Nax (CNRS Paris) will give a Choice Group presentation on 'Learning in a Black Box' on June 19, 5:30-7:00pm.

 

News

Bryan Roberts (currently a postdoc at the University of Southern California) will join the Department as a lecturer in October 2013. His AOS is history and philosophy of physics.
