Below are events designed to meet the needs of PhD
students and research staff coming up through the summer
(booking is open for all):
A panel of speakers will share their experiences of
finishing up and moving on from their PhD both in and
outside academia, followed by networking over a glass of
wine.
Have you found yourself wondering whether a career in
academia is less compatible with having a family than
other careers paths? This is an issue often raised in
career discussions with PhD students and research staff.
A small panel of speakers who have addressed this in
their own career progression in academia will explore it
in some detail.
In this seminar we will consider how PhD students and
researchers can construct strong applications for jobs
both in and outside academia, including guidance on
employers’ expectations of applications and how you can
present yourself successfully.
This is an introduction to interviews and other
selection processes outside academia and will help PhD
students and research staff learn how to prepare and
what to expect.
Find out more about the Brilliant Club and their
teaching opportunities for PhD students and postdoctoral
researchers at this event.
LSE PhD alumni work in a wide range of sectors
outside academia and find career success all over the
world. With this in mind, LSE Careers is hosting a
breakfast event to showcase some of the corporate
opportunities available to you as a current PhD
student/recent graduate or researcher.
PhD students who have more than 10 years’ work
experience have different needs, in terms of career
progression and life after the PhD, from others. This
informal lunch is a chance to meet some of your peers
again. Catherine Reynolds, LSE Careers PhD careers
consultant, will facilitate a discussion about careers
issues relevant for people in your situation.
Are you thinking about
different career options and/or are unsure about which
career path to take? This interactive seminar will help
you to review your strengths and values, assess the
options open to you, and plan some next steps.
In Michaelmas Term the focus shifts to academic
careers. If you need support with this before then
please
book a one-to-one careers appointment.
