Contributor(s): Professor Alina Mungiu-Pippidi
Released on 3 November 2011
In this short film, Professor Alina Mungiu-Pippidi of the Hertie School outlines issues concerning Europe as an ideological space and as a vision. As she explains, Europe needs a new conception of itself, a new ideology – multiculturalism is widely held to have failed, and within European states, citizens remain indifferent to the cohesive project of the EU. These problems, at least in part, arise from the conflict between the current ideology of Europe and the material interests of its member states.
The Dahrendorf Symposium will take place in Berlin on 9-10 November 2011.
