In January 2015, the London School of Economics and Political Science launched an innovative civic engagement project which aimed to crowdsource a written constitution for the UK. The project employed a proven enterprise idea-management system, augmenting the core platform with a light-touch, flexible pedagogy and third-party social curation tools. Over 14 weeks, our innovative design supported the formation of a community of some 1500 users, who delivered a written constitution derived from 700 ideas, 9000 comments and 25000 votes. The project engaged the community in a unique, open and social learning experiment while delivering tangible outputs. SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon described the project as “…a fantastic example of an initiative which is timely, innovative and… which could have a lasting impact on public affairs.
