Metropolitan Governance and Spatial Planning: comparative case studies of European city-regions

Anton Kreukels, William Salet, Andy Thornley, eds
Spon Press (8 November 2002)

This book explores the relationship between the arrangements for metropolitan decision-making and the co-ordination of spatial policy, and compares approaches across a wide range of European cities. The contributors examine the interplay between the changing socio-economic pressures on cites in an era of globalisation, the attempts to formulate a co-ordinated strategic spatial policy for the city, and the changing arrangements for metropolitan governance. An analysis of 20 major European cities summarises the similar and differing approaches adopted and offers comment on the implications for better co-ordination of metropolitan governance and strategic policy.
