The final Gearty Grilling: Craig Calhoun, Director of LSE, on facing the future

Craig Calhoun, Director of LSE and world-renowned social scientist, discusses his research and the future of LSE in the final Gearty Grilling.

This lively interview is the last in a series of 40 short, to-the-point video debates from LSE’s Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) on key issues affecting the world today. Conor Gearty, Director of the IPA and Professor of Human Rights Law, subjects academics to a five-minute grilling to showcase the School's world class research and faculty.

Professor Gearty commented: "The Grillings have given me a renewed appreciation of the qualities of my colleagues at LSE - not just scholarly (which I always knew) but so many of them intent as well on leaving the world a better place than they found it. Because of the Grillings I am now more aware than I ever was before of the sheer moral weight of so many of those with whom I work. It has been a privilege to have had the chance to draw metaphorical (and entirely friendly) swords with so many of them. The experience is not one I will ever forget."
