LSE continues to ride high in rankings

LSE has maintained its position as one of the top universities in the world according to the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings|.

The School was placed in 34th overall and 11th in the social science subject league table, a rise in two places from the 2013 subject rankings. It is also one of only seven UK universities in the top 50.

This year’s rankings saw LSE rated particularly highly for its international outlook and research, and deemed as having the most cited research in the world for arts and humanities.

Commenting on the rankings, Professor Craig Calhoun, Director of LSE said:

That LSE continues to be recognised as a world-leading university is gratifying and testament to the hard work of our staff.

Although no league table can fully capture what a university like LSE is all about, they can provide some insight into what we do well and, of course, where we can do even better. The priority for the School is to continue to focus on producing the very best research and teaching and continuing to engage with the world’s most pressing problems.

This is the fourth annual global league table produced by the Times Higher Education since it partnered with Thomson Reuters in 2010.

In a separate league table, LSE was rated as being the top university in the UK for students seeking careers in finance, investment banking and marketing.

Professional networking site, LinkedIn, looked at the jobs of over 300 million of its members from around the world who graduated in the last eight years. After cross-referencing this information with where the members studied, the site ranked universities based on how successful their graduates were in gaining employment in the 'top companies' in different fields.

LSE was ranked as the most successful UK university for getting graduates into three of the five categories of ‘desirable jobs’ – investment banking, finance and marketing.
