Competition is now open for places on an executive programme which will take participants to London, Istanbul and Singapore to understand the crucial issues in global management.
The London School of Economics and Political Science announced that its Global Master's in Management Programme will start in September 2012 with only 35 places available for the degree's first intake.
Aimed at professionals who want to study while continuing in their jobs, the programme will consist of seven classroom sessions of one or two weeks, spread across 17 months.
Two of the modules will be abroad, one in Singapore and one in Istanbul. These sessions have been planned to give an even richer insight into the particular issues shaping professional life in those parts of the world. However all the programme's core teaching and content are provided by LSE faculty.
The international focus of the Global Master's in Management will extend not only to participants, expected to be from North America, Europe and Asia, but also to the wide range of external experts who will contribute to the programme. LSE will draw on prominent and experienced speakers from business and government, using its network of high-profile alumni.
The Global Master's in Management complements the existing Master's in Management programme at LSE, which is full-time and taught primarily in London.
LSE has developed Master's programmes on which students wrestle with the intellectual and theoretical principles underpinning management theories, as well as those theories themselves. At the same time, LSE's international outlook and engagement (more than half of its students are from overseas) help ensure that the programmes are fully grounded in contemporary geopolitics.
Dr Dina Dommett, Associate Dean in LSE's Department of Management, said: "We have specifically designed this course for working executives who want to advance their career while studying – participants will need to spend no more than 10 weeks away from the office over the 17-month programme.
"Away from the classroom they'll keep in touch through online material and discussions which will keep up the pace. We'll make it easy for working people to take the degree but that doesn't mean we'll make it easy. It will be intense and it will be thorough.
"At the same time, we've tried to hone every aspect of the course to ensure it's relevant and topical. Global management is geographically varied as well as fast-moving and we've reflected that. By travelling to Singapore and Turkey, participants will get genuine insight into business thinking across the globe."
The degree consists of seven modules which teach sessions on managerial economics, organisational behaviour, finance, marketing, strategy, emerging markets, international political economy and a uniquely integrated course on the foundations of management. Tailored leadership development sessions and a supervised business project will support students on the job and provide opportunities for sponsoring organisations to contribute to their learning.
