The London School of Economics and Political Science stressed again today that LSE degrees are only awarded to those who study at LSE.
There has been some confusion in the media and elsewhere about the exact status of students of the External System of the University of London.
The LSE is one of 11 colleges providing academic direction to the programmes of the External System. These colleges design the curriculums, provide teaching materials and examine the students. But they do not teach the students; and the students on these programmes of distance learning are all students of the University of London, not of the colleges. They graduate with University of London degrees, not degrees awarded by the colleges.
