The C+J Modi/Narayanan PhD Fellowship Programme was announced at the launch of the LSE India Observatory in October this year.
The Programme will provide five fellowships of £15,000 each, to support PhD researchers associated with the Asia Research Centre and the India Observatory (IO) under the leadership of Sir Nicholas Stern, IG Patel Professor of Economics and Government, head of the IO, director of the Asia Research Centre, LSE and vice chairman, IDEAglobal Group.
The programme was created by Shandi Modi, chairman of IDEAglobal Group and honorary fellow of LSE, in honour of his mother and father, Champa and Jamnadas Modi, and KR Narayanan, the former president of India and LSE alumnus. The holders of the fellowships will be known as C+J Modi/ Narayanan fellows.
Fellowships will be awarded by a committee comprising Sir Nicholas Stern; Shandi Modi and Professor Lord Meghnad Desai, emeritus professor of economics at the School.
As part of the C+J Modi/Narayanan Fellowship programme, the Asia Research Centre will also host an annual C+J Modi/Narayanan public lecture.
