President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, to speak at LSE

José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, will give a public lecture at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on Friday 20 May. He will speak on Response and Responsibility: the global partnership for aid and development [updated 16 May].

With the United Kingdom placing aid and development at the heart of the agenda for its forthcoming EU Presidency and its chairmanship of the G8 summit at Gleneagles in July, Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso sets out how the European Union can play a more effective role in the global partnership for tackling these critical issues. José Manuel Barroso was appointed president of the European Commission in November 2004. Prior to this he was prime minister of Portugal.

Professor Kevin Featherstone, LSE, will chair this event.
