Dr Javier Solana, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy for the European Union, will be joining Professor Anthony Giddens, Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), in a Director's Dialogue on Thursday 20 February at LSE.
The Director's Dialogues are a series of debates at which key dilemmas and possibilities of the contemporary age are discussed by Anthony Giddens and a keynote speaker.
Professor Anthony Giddens, director of LSE, is one of the world's foremost social theorists. He has been at the forefront of developing ideas in left of centre politics, his ideas have strongly influenced the development of New Labour in the UK, and have also made an impact upon many other social democratic parties elsewhere.
Prior to his appointment as High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy for the European Union, Dr Javier Solana was the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (NATO) ninth secretary general from 1995 to 1999. He was a member of the Spanish parliament from 1977 to 1995, serving variously as minister of culture, minister of education and science and minister foreign affairs.
