The World Social Forum Debate:  Civil Society and Globalisation

Susan George, Andrew Simms, Dr Leslie Sklair and Guy Taylor will be debating Civil Society and Globalisation at LSE on Thursday 14 February.

The debate will focus on the challenges facing civil society and its importance in the globalising world, as this was presented at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre. Issues concerning participatory democracy, protest movements, global governance and inequality will be addressed.

  • Susan George, fellow of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam and Vice-President of Attac France, is an influential writer and a globalisation commentator.
  • Andrew Simms is from the UK-based think-thank The New Economics Foundation.
  • Dr Leslie Sklair is Reader in Sociology at LSE and an expert on globalisation.
  • Guy Taylor is the leader of Globalise Resistance, a UK anti-globalisation movement.

The event is being organised by a number of student societies at the LSE, but primarily by the LSE Attac Society.
