Professor Galbraith to receive honorary degree

John Kenneth Galbraith, Professor Emeritus of Harvard University whose books include The Affluent Society, The Great Crash and The Good Society: the humane agenda , will be giving a talk at the London School of Economics and Political Science on Monday 28 June.

His lecture, In the New Century, the Unfinished Business of the Old , will be followed by a short ceremony in which the degree of Doctor of Science (Economics) honoris causa will be conferred upon him.

Born in Canada, Professor Galbraith did graduate work at the Universities of California and Cambridge. He was wartime Director of Price Control Operations in the US, later President of the American Economic Association and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and US Ambassador to India.

The lecture will take place in the Old Theatre at 6.30pm.

Professor Galbraith will be proposed by Lord Roll.
