Zelal Başak Kızılkan

Visiting Fellow

Dr Zelal Başak Kızılkan is currently Visiting Fellow at the LSE Middle East Centre carrying out a research on the 'Neighborhood Policies of the EU and Turkey after Arab Uprising', supported by the Newton-Katip Çelebi Fund of the British Council. Her project analyses the implications of Turkish regional activism towards the MENA countries on Turkey–EU relations. It aims to explore the challenges and opportunities for Turkey and the EU to pursue a common policy in their wider neighbourhood based on common principles and soft power instruments. Zelal is also Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Jean Monnet Module in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Mardin Artuklu University in Turkey.  She completed her PhD at the University of Cologne in 2012.
