Dr Nadia Mounajjed joined the Middle East Centre as a Visiting Fellow in November 2012. Between 2007 and 2012, she worked as Assistant Professor of Architecture and Design at the American University of Sharjah, while serving as the research advisor to the Sharjah Art Foundation.
Her research interest lies in body theory, the politics of space, visual culture in the Middle East and the Gulf region, with a special focus on Syria and the UAE. She led and co-produced a study with the Sharjah Art Foundation on the early forms of visual representation in the UAE, with an emphasis on photography and media. Her current research also involves a mapping of the visual production and spaces of resistance in today’s Syria.
Dr Mounajjed has been actively engaged in community service and joined a number of humanitarian initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity in Vietnam and the Syrian Jusoor Mentorship Educational Program. Her creative work was exhibited in the UAE and the UK. And her publications appeared in International journals such as Human Technology and the International Journal of Design Sciences and Technology.
