All the GCC countries and Yemen submitted their Climate Action Plans ahead of the 2015 Paris agreement. For most countries, the implementation of the GHG mitigation measures (as well as the adaptation measures) is either voluntary or conditional upon international support. Whilst it is important to view these efforts with cautious optimism, the implementation of these strategies is timely and needed. However, the implementation of these strategies is complicated by the uncertainty associated with their potential adverse impacts on the local economies, which are reliant on fossil fuel export revenues.

This research will address the economic uncertainty associated with climate change policy implementation in the GCC. Additionally, challenges to the implementation of climate change policies in the GCC will be analysed. A comparative case study analysis between the GCC countries and Yemen will be conducted.
