Dr Hessah Al-Ojayan joined the Middle East Centre as a Visiting Fellow in October 2014. She is also an Assistant Professor of Finance at Kuwait University.
Her research interests include Islamic finance and economics, GCC and emerging capital markets, SMEs, and the history of finance and economics in the Middle East. Recent research has focused on the price reactions to right issues in the Kuwait Stock Exchange. She is also a member of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor research team in Kuwait.

This research study investigates the drivers behind positive price reaction to rights issues announcements in Kuwait Stock Exchange. The study documents higher abnormal returns for firms that undertake larger issues and for firms that are affiliated with a family group.
