The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Kuwait Programme on Development, Governance and Globalisation in the Gulf States in association with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) is pleased to announce its second biennial international conference entitled 'The Economic Transformation of the Gulf'.
The conference will examine the impact of global processes in driving the economic transformation of the Gulf states and map the GCC responses to these shifting patterns of geo-economic and geo-political power. Topics for consideration will include the Gulf and the global financial crisis, foreign direct investment and implications for economic governance, and the prospects for regional financial centres.
The conference will additionally examine trends in higher education and development in the Gulf States and assess the challenges and opportunities facing the GCC in transitioning toward knowledge-based economies.
The conference will bring together a distinguished collection of senior public figures, academics and postgraduate students from the Gulf and the broader international community to discuss these issues in an interdisciplinary forum. It will be held at the headquarters of KFAS in Kuwait City and aims to make an important contribution to the academic discourse on the economic transformation of the Gulf states.
