The Iraqi Constitution: Structural Flaws and Political Implications

In this talk, Professor Saad Jawad will discuss the political implications and impact of the 2005 Iraqi constitution. He will also provide an analysis of Iraq's constitutional history, as well as a study of the process that culminated in the draft of the new constitution. 

This event will mark the launch of Professor Jawad's MEC Paper 'The Iraqi Constitution: Structural Flaws and Political Implications'.

Professor Saad Jawad joined the Middle East Centre as a Senior Visiting Fellow in December 2010. He is a prominent Iraqi political scientist who taught at the University of Baghdad for more than 30 years. His interests include Iraqi Kurds, the war in Iraq and its effect on the Middle East and the regional influence of Iraq's neighbours. He is the author, most recently, of chapters in The Decision Making in the Arab Regimes (Nevine Mos'ad (ed.), Centre for Arab Unity Studies, July 2010) and Towards a Historical Democratic Front in the Arab Countries (Ali K. Alkawari and A. Madi, (eds.) Centre for Arab Unity Studies, March 2010).
