UAE foreign policy before and after the Arab Spring

LSE Middle East Centre and LSE Kuwait Programme Event

In this talk, Khalid Almezaini will discuss how the UAE has played a role in supporting popular uprisings in Libya, Syrian and Tunisia, but took a different position in Egypt. The UAE's dramatic change in foreign policy has led this small state to take a leading role in the post-Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. In addition, he will examine how the changing role of Qatar encouraged the UAE to counter the rise of Islamists during the so-called Arab Spring.
