A major surprise of the Arab Spring has been the remarkable prominence gained by the Salafi movement, which seems about to impose itself as a serious political competitor to the Muslim Brotherhood in several countries of the Middle East. With a focus on Egypt, this presentation will explore the sociology, economy and politics of the Salafi movement and its different factions, in order to better understand the role it is playing in the current political context.
