Findings

This research aimed at analysing the relationship of students’ problematic internet use (PIU) levels with different variables such as gender, cumulative grade point average (CumGPA), length of regular internet usage time, average weekly use of the internet, competency of internet use and internet use purposes. • While males had more PIU levels than females, those who had low CumGPA had more problematic internet usage behaviours than those with high CumGPA. • When weekly usage of the internet increased, problematic internet use behaviours also increased; students who were competent in internet usage had more high problematic internet use levels than incompetent users; and students who used the internet for searching or for homework and information had low problematic internet use levels than those who used it for fun or making relationships; a significant difference in PIU levels, grade and length of regular internet usage time did not have significant difference in PIU levels.
