• Children and young people use the internet in different locations and on different devices. About three-quarters of the 15- to 16-year-olds also go online with their mobile phone.
• For children one part of being online is being aware of internet risks. The older the children are, the more they are aware of internet risks. Contact with internet risk does not automatically lead to harm. If this is the case, different groups of children feel disturbed to different degrees. Girls, younger children and children with psychological diffigulties feel more disturbed than other groups.
• In Switzerland 338,000 children aged between 9 and 16 are affected by internet risks. For 65,000 children the internet experience was unpleasant.
• Prevention should be directed at all children, because the older the children are, the more they are aware of internet risks. The focus should be on communicative and active solution strategies.
