|
• On average children aged 8-17 spend online 1.6 hours per day. Nearly half of the sample (48%) think the time they spend online is too much.
• 44% of parents agree that they need to be in control of what their children do online. However, while 4 parents out of ten state they always know what their children do online, 52% report being informed on their children’s online activities only sometimes. While just 4% of parents claim they ignore what their children do online, this percentage increases to 20%, according to children.
• The main risky experiences reported by children are: receiving a friendship request by a stranger (41%); downloading a virus (33%); seeing unwanted sexual or violent content (25%); and being invited to an offline meeting by strangers (10%). More than one-third of children feel upset, bothered, angry, or confused by what happened online.
