• The first reactions of law enforcement officers was to deny a connection between the internet and human trafficking. They admitted that approaching victims on the internet does not differ significantly from approaching them in person: gaining trust, promises of material gain. The internet is also an environment for sexual services, under the disguise of legal activities, such as massage saloons or video chat. The most problematic is the expansion of the internet in the rural areas, which are the most targeted for recruiting victims. Awareness raising among vulnerable populations (rural, disadvantaged) is essential. Most victims are aged 15-17, but there are also younger cases of victims aged 12-13. Risk factors include emotional problems, disorganised families/family conflicts, rural areas, low-risk awareness, and need for sexual assertion.
