• Half of the children start using a mobile phone around the age of 10, most of them using the mobile to send/receive text messages (86% very often); the average age for first internet use is 11.7; 90% go online from home. • 93% of children take part in online discussions, whether on instant messenger, Facebook, HI5 or Skype; 81% use these networks to stay in contact with friends and family, 69% to make new friends, 65% for fun. Others (22%) go online to find romantic partners; 15% go online because they feel lonely. Half of the children play online games with both friends and people they don’t know.
