• Websites, YouTube, Facebook and other social media offerings are important recruitment tools of right-wing populist organisations. Furthermore, electronic media and social web offerings are important channels of dissemination of propaganda (e.g. xenophobia, racism, hate against others etc.).
• The Austrian team conducted two case studies and analysed the websites as well as the YouTube channels and Facebook accounts of Identitäre Bewegung Österreich (IBÖ) and Ring Freiheitlicher Jugend (RFJ), which is strongly connected to the Freiheitliche Partei Österreich (FPÖ).
• The contents of RFJ, on the one hand, tend to be more text-intensive, referring to common sense. They try to create a clear distinction between ‘we’ and ‘the others’. IBÖ, on the other hand, argues in a very ideological way, based on ethno-cultural differences. They tend to use not only text but also picture postings and headlines to carry out their anti-Muslim and racist stereotypes.
